We are made to dance.

Our bodies are made to move. We are designed to use our bodies as tools to open pathways and conduits in our body and move energy through them.  There is no easier way to do that than through dance.  Dance has benefits for all aspects of the body, mind & spirit.

Physically speaking "dance" is an excellent way to:
  • improve the condition of your heart and lungs
  • increase muscular strength, endurance and motor fitness
  • increase aerobic fitness
  • improve muscle tone and strength
  • help with weight management
  • support stronger bones and reduce risk of osteoporosis
  • have better coordination, agility and flexibility
  • improve balance and spatial awareness
  • increase physical confidence

Mentally, dance helps with:
  • improved mental functioning
  • improved general and psychological wellbeing
  • greater self-confidence and self-esteem
  • better social skills

And let's talk engeretically. In Ayurvedic science, they believe that there are energy channels called Nadis. These are the channels in which energy or prana flows. The nadis weave their way through around the chakras or energy vortexes.
Chakras have the a variety of functions such as being generators (1st and 2nd Chakra), transformers (3rd Chakra), transmitters (4th and 5th Chakra) or receivers (6th and 7th Chakra).
Among the chakra pathway and pathway of the main three nadis are granthis. Granthis are psychic knots in the physical body which are obstacles on the path of the elevating energy.

Energetically, dance helps with:
  • Clearing and opening the nadis so prana can flow
  • Balancing the energy of the chakras to function more optimally
  • Removing congestion in the granthis so prana can flow into the higher chakras

Whoa, that a serious list of benefits. And not all dance is created equally. To access the energetic benefits of dance, you'll have to seek out styles like PranaShakti, Qoya, Nia, Ecstatic, etc.

Maybe it's been sometime since you moved in a way that felt good in your body.
I've included a video to give you a little taste of some PranaShakti Dance. It's my favorite way to prep for my yoga practices, to warm up my body, focus my mind and get energy moving.

Give it a try.
So now over to you...
How was moving in this way? How was it on your body? Where did your thoughts go? How do you feel?
Do you remember how old you were when you stopped dancing?
When did you have to start ingesting copious amounts of alcohol or drugs to feel free enough to move your body and not care what people thought?
What made you believe you couldn't or you shouldn't dance?
Comment below and let me know.
